ArtBeat Spring Season 2013

Oh, my goodness! Time flies ... and it's that time of the year when we start the ArtBeat season. I'm so excited to get back to this small but fun venue, where I have the chance to see the awesome vendors that every year come back to this event. It's also so nice to meet new people that want to share their lovely crafts.

At our first ArtBeat of the season we had the amazing Trevor Green as the performer of the night. His music is great and all the people that attended were so pleased. He's a very talented artist.

And now that we are talking about talent, this time we're sharing the story of two great craft artists.
First, we have Kathy Wheeler. An amazing friend, leader and crafter.

Tell as a bit about yourself.
I have lived in Las Vegas for 47 years. I have a blended family with five children and one new grand baby.

What do you make? Do you have an online shop?
I have an online tea shop. Tea Bou-tea-que at: www.teabouteaque.etsy.com and www.teabouteques.com

In the 80's and 90's my brother and I wanted to open a tea shop locally before any teas stores were even here in my home town. But of course, life happens along the way and we never got around too it. So now I am venturing out to have an on line store. I have been an avid Tea drinker for over 40 years. I love all kinds of tea! I enjoy hand blending different kind of teas and mixing a variety of different flavors, spices to create a unique tea.
Apart from creating, what do you do?
For 16 years I have been working as a Nail Technician. I used to own a Hair/Nail Salon.  I love to garden. And I'm a captain for a local Vegas Handmade Originals Etsy team.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My first first inspiration came from my grandmother when I was 10. She taught me knitting and to be creative in many other areas. I enjoy being around positive people who give you all sorts of wonderful ideas. I am always thinking of new things. A quote that I always loved and have a sign in my office of this is: A reward of a thing well done is to have done it~~~by Emerson

What does handmade mean to you?
Handmade means to me creating with your own two hands and doing what your passion is.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
Without a doubt my grandmother.

Last, but not least. We have Judy Reil, a great jewelry maker. She just joined the ArtBeat family. Let's meet her!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Judy Reil and I've been painting portraits and paintings since I was 7 or 8. I have been here since February, 2012. I'm from Sacramento, CA.

What do you make? Do you have an online shop?
I recently started making bracelets and love it. I still paint and do commission about anything. My online shop is www.reilwildthings.etsy.com

Apart from creating, what do you do?
Pretty much I just create and think of new things to create.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My paintings come from watching people. I love faces and making them larger than life.

What does handmade means to you?
Handmade is created by my own hands. Whether it be paintings or bracelets. Something you can not buy mass produced. One of a kind.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My mom always encouraged me and my daughters support my artwork. Rembrandt has been very influential in my paintings. Lots of color.

And, of course. Here are a few pics of the rest of the crafty people that brought their items to sell.

Our next event will be May 3rd. Don't miss the fun and come see us!
