ArtBeat - Oct. 19th, 2012

Time flies! This last month and a half went by too fast. And to close the ArtBeat Season, we had Tommy Tutone performing that night. He sang the hit "867-5309/Jenny" and much more.

We hope next season will be a hit and that lots of people will come spend their Friday night with us. We got lots of feedback from vendors and people that attended the events and we'll be working to making things better.

As always, we picked some vendors that were part of the event to be the ArtBeat featured craft artists. First, we have Norine Centofante. She makes amazing primitive dolls. Her work is unique and super cool! Here is what she shared with us:

Tell us a bit about your self.
I'm retired, since 1998 and began collecting vintage fabrics and making handmade items to sell online and in boutiques.

What do you make?
I make primitive grunge dolls and quilted handbags.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I golf, bike, ride, hang out with my wonderful husband, play with my beautiful granddaughter Adelina. Sell on Ebay for my friend Kelkel Klozet - High End Clothing and craft with girlfriends.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My walks and my friends.

What does handmade means to you?
Made with my own two hands. Not mass produced.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
Tin Burton

Our last featured craft artist of the season is Carissa Halbmaier. She makes the cutest baby items! The baby girl onesies are super cute. Let's get to know her a bit better :)

Tell us a bit about your self.
I moved from Iowa to Nevada last year to go to school and nanny for my sister and her husband's new baby. Shomewhere along the line, I started making diaper covers and loved it so much. I decided to expand. I opened an Etsy shop and sell at Arm Nannies in Town Square.

What do you make? And you have an online shop?
I do have an online shop! barrelandaheap.etsy.com
I make diaper covers, baby toys, bibs, quilts, pacifier clips, fun onesies, hand stamped muslin blankets, burp cloths, children's aprons, pillow covers and more to come!

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I nanny 3 days a week, work on my bachelor's degree, blog at carissacarissa.typepad.com and do other super nerdy things.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My niece, outside, my family, everywhere I look!

What does handmade means to you?
Love, craftsmanship, care, quality.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My grandmas both crafted their entire lives and the more I think about what they created, the more I want to create.

I didn't take good photos this time. Sorry about that {embarrassed}. The worst thing is that I took quite a lot of photos and only a few came out ok. I promise next time I will do better. Here are the lucky vendors who were in those "ok" photos.

I really hope to see you next year at one or all the ArtBeat events! I will keep you posted with the new dates. See you soon!

ArtBeat - October 12th, 2012

We were close to have a rainy night! The weather wasn't the best and since we had rain the day before, people were scared of the rain and we had a slow event. Not much traffic. But, it didn't stop us from having fun and enjoying the night.

John Parr was the artist of the night! He played his #1 single "St. Elmo's Fire" and much more! People that came to see him had a blast and enjoyed the concert.

Our friend from Just Alliance was part of the pre-show, once again! We love having him! People enjoyed his looping class. He's such a nice guy.

We were so happy that more craft artists joined us. We love to see new faces and of course we are so glad to have our loyal vendors that have been part of this event for the last two years. This week we are featuring three amazing craft artist. Each of them are great in what they do. Let's start!

First we have Angel LaCanfora. Angel joined the ArtBeat last season and we love having her as part of the Fall season. She's VERY talented woman. I personally think there isn't something she can't do. Let's see what she shared to us.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a mosaic artist/singer-songwriter and aspiring landscape photographer

What do you make?
I make mosaics and have an Etsy shop called "Mosaics by LaCanfora"

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
My day job is on internet marketing for a company that makes/distributes educational DVD's for schools and institutions.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
Primarily nature and landscapes. I'm addicted to "sun setting" taking photos of sunsets and a number of those pics have become mosaics.

What does handmade means to you?
It means crafting something from scratch, shaping it into something meaningful to you that you hope others might love too.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
Mosaicists Sonia King and Isaiah Zagar have been huge influences on my work. King draws on nature, creating stunning abstracts. Zagar is more of a folk artist, whose work is bright, colorful, whimsical and poignant.

Our second craft artist is Krystal. She makes great items from recycled cassette tapes, old video games and records. Her items are so fun!

Tell us a bit about you.
I spend most of my time being mom and wife. Then fill in the rest with crafty fun!

What do you make?
Tape purses, record purses, hemp jewelry, socktopus and more.
Ruby420 is my Etsy shop where you can find my goodies.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I'm a stay at home mom.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
I like to reuse and recycled.

What does handmade means to you?
Made by yourself with an idea you made.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My husband.

Our last featured craft artist is Aida Veno. She makes soap. They are so cute that you don't want to use them. The lavender ones are my favorites!

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a mom of three children. Ages 4-6. I work as a crossing guard when school is in. I love going to California's beaches whenever I have a chance. Nothing to excited here to tell. I just love spending time with family and having a good time.

What do you make?
I make bars of soaps, and yes they suds and lather up just like soap from the stores (people have asked me that before). I make an all natural solid lotion. It's even safe to use on the lips. Just recently I started making crochet washcloths to go with soaps. My mom helps making those as well.

My online shop is  https://soapmama.lish.com

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Soaping has been taking most of my time lately but in my extra time I just like to relax at home and watch movies with the family. If we have extra time and money we go to the beach.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My inspiration comes from things that I personally like and since I know people all like different things, I usually ask around what others like and just go from there.

What does handmade means to you?
Handmade to me means that the final product is made by someone. It doesn't matter if the person takes one product and then turns it into their own somehow.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My son has been the most influential. He is the reason I started making soaps in the first place.

As always, here are some of the pics of the rest of the incredible vendors!

We hope you can join us at the last ArtBeat on October 19th. The pre-show starts at 6:30pm and the concert at 8:00pm. Come spend your Friday night with us. Food, Music and lots of amazing crafts and art!

ArtBeat - September 28th, 2012

Hello! Here I am again reporting about our latest ArtBeat of the Fall Season. This time was Benton Paul's time to shine! He did great and the people that showed up to see him had a good time. At the end of the concert he took the time to sign autographs for his fans. Which they appreciated.

Just Alliance was in charge of the pre-show, laying down some cool music and helping us to enjoy the night.

Personally I had fun chatting with vendors. They are just amazing people! This time we are featuring three great vendors. We are so happy to have them.

First, we have Shanel Myers. She is a young jewelry maker. Her pieces are so pretty! Let's see what she has to tell us.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Shanel Myers. I'm 24 years old and I was  born and raised here in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have a daughter and t of my her name is Scarlet. Most of my days I'm spending time with my family and friends. And other days I'm constantly creating. I mostly make jewelry but I also love to "do it yourself" (DIY) as well!

What do you make? Do you have an online shop?
I create many designs of wire wrapped jewelry. All of my pieces are all handmade by myself. I make rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings all wire wrapped that are all one of a kind. A lot of supplies, charms and beads are found pieces from thrift/vintage stores. I also do a lot of personalized inexpensive customized jewelry. I will soon be getting an Etsy account, but as of now I have a website that is currently under construction.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I'm a full time mom, part time employee at Antropologie and part time creating jewelry and DIY projects.

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My inspiration comes from current fashion trends as well as vintage inspired jewelry. Pinterest and Lookbook.nu are my favorite websites I go on to get inspiration.

What does handmade means to you?
Handmade to me means that it comes from the heart, it's unique, one of a kind and it's never perfect.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
The most influential person  that has been a huge part of my craft would have to be my boyfriend. He loves coming to events with me and  he is always coming up with new ideas and he always wants to be par of it any way he can. He know how happy I am when I am making jewelry and he hopes one day he can quit his job so we can be traveling gypsies and sell my jewelry for a living! :D

Shanel is a super nice girl. I'm so happy to have her as part of the ArtBeat.

Our second featured artist is Josdi Mehr. Her work  is amazing! Here is what she said:

Last, but not least. We have Ashley Peek! A talented face painter.
Tell us a bit about you self.
My name is Ashley Devon Peek and I'm 28 years old. I have been married for 9 years and have two great kids. Seth who is 8 and Lilly who is 4. I'm originally from Queens, NY and have been living here in Vegas since I was 18. I've always been an artist and originally wanted to go to art school and draw for Marvel comics. When I was in high school I started to sell my art in galleries around the city and started face painting as my after school job! Since I moved to Vegas I moved into the early childhood education field and focused  on being a mommy, but art is my soul and love to share it with the world, specially with children.

What do you make?
I love creating art for children! I make sweet nursery room artwork that can be personalized and custom ordered. I also paint murals for children's rooms and of course I am a professional face and body painter.

Apart from creating things, what do you?
For the last eight years I have been a teacher in the early childhood education field. However, I have taken a break to stay home and be with my kids and work on my art business. Face painting has been a huge part of my life these days and I love it!

Where dies your inspiration comes from?
My inspiration comes from all over. From comics to fairytales, to childhood memories. Inspiration can strike at any moment, so I often keep a notepad with me to quickly write down ideas as they come.

What does handmade means to you?
Handmade to me means made with care and detail. To really work with your hands and feel your craft. I feel like in today's digital society we can easily forget the fine details that go in to one of a kind handmade creations and the people who put the time and heart into the work.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My children inspire me everyday, I love to see what's new to then and they like and how I can put it into my art, whether it's on a face painting or on the artwork I make for their rooms, they keep my ideas fresh!

My son is a fan of Ashley. He loves her and his favorite part of the ArtBeat is getting cool art on his face!

I hope you can join us at the next ArtBeat on October 12th. The pre-show starts at 6:30pm and the concert at 8:00pm. Come spend your Friday night with us. Food, Music and lots of amazing crafts and art!

As always, here are some pics of the rest of the amazing vendors!
