ArtBeat End of the Season

To end this ArtBeat season we had the amazing performance of Sam Riddle. He gave us a great concert. He was just phenomenal! 


We thank the vendors that participated at the event. It was a cold night but they were there having fun with all of us, as we traditionally do. We are featuring two fabulous vendors.

First, we have Holly Sewell from Sunfish Photography. Let's see what she told us ....
Tell us a bit about yourself. 
I am a portrait and wedding photographer but I also enjoy photographing old cars and nature among other things for my own enjoyment. I am goofy and love to laugh a lot! 

What do you make?
In addition to my photography I enjoy making Christmas stockings out of felt and buttons and have many other ideas in the works! My mond is always thinking of new ways to explore my creativity side. 

Do you have an online shop?

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I am a mom, so that keeps me pretty busy! I loce music and would like to make time to get back to playing. I love spending time with my family, my husband, my boys, my big dog and two crazy cats.

Where does your inspiration come from?
For my photography, old cars, vintage signs, architecture and all kind of nature. For my other creations, mostly my love of the holidays. I have always made things for myself but have started making things for other and really enjoy it.

What does handmade means to you?
Made by someone's own hands. 

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
Probably my best friend. Usually if she likes what I make, I am hopeful that other will also! 


Now, it's time to introduce you to Heidi Coleman - Zupancic. Do you want to know what she shared with us? I know I do! 

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm originally from Bavaria, Germany and been in Henderson for over 19 years. I love this town since it alters the small town feel that I grew up in. I've been in the service industry over 25 years and pride myself to have great customer service, skills and experience.

What do you make?
All natural and organic jams, jellies, cookies, chocolates, breads and muffins. I create gift baskets and edible bouquets. 

Do you have an online shop?

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I have a personal and business concierge service and event planning company. 

Where does your inspiration come from?
My customers that love my products and keep coming back showing me their trust and loyalty.

What does handmade mean to you?
I know where my ingredients come from and I don't have to worry about preservatives or chemicals, etc. It's a better, healthier product and is made from the heart. 

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My mother raised me that homemade and made from scratch was the only way :D

ArtBeat - October 18th, 2013

ArtBeat presented by Target returned with Ruth Moody! A member of folk darlings The Wailin’ Jennys. The singer/songwriter Ruth Moody tours in support of her second solo album, “These Wilder Things.”




And, as usual. We are featuring two great crafters that participated at this event. Their items are amazing and that's why we want to introduce them to you! Their items make perfect gifts for the coming holiday season. 

First, we have Sabrina Graves ...


Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a former dance teacher/choreographer. Currently I stay home working on accessories and caring for my kids. My husband serves in the Air force so we never know where like will take us. 

What do you make?
Hair accessories, jewelry and wipe clutches.

Do you have an online shop?

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I enjoy all types of crafting. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and traveling. 

Where does your inspiration come from?
I started making hair accessories when I had a baby girl 10 years ago. I created things for her and a few friends. Four years ago a back injury kept me in bed for a long period of time. I started making large quantities to keep myself sane.

What does handmade mean to you?
Handmade means create with love by an actual person.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My daughters have been a huge inspiration. My style evolves as they do. 


Last, but not least. We have DebyAnn! 

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a stay at home mom of two teen boys. Been married for 16 years this November. LOVE crafting, sewing, riding my bike, reading when I get a chance.

What do you make?
I make duck take rings, earrings, flower pens, mechanical pencils and pens (covered with duck tape). 

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Raise my boys the best I can. I try to be a good wife and mother while suffering with Fibromyalgia and spinal cord compression for which I'm having surgery before the years end. Being in chronic pain and fatigue, it takes all I have to face each day, but with my crafting I'm able to cope.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Whatever peaks my interest and isn't too complicated. 

What does handmade mean to you?
Making things by hand and with love.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
God and the gifts (skills) He's given me.

Ready, Set ... Go! ArtBeat, Fall Season already started!

Local indie rock band A Crowd of Small Adventures kicked off the new ArtBeat season. They were awesome! People really enjoyed their music. 



This time we're featuring a really cool craft artist. He makes leather accessories. His name Vern Watson Jr. 

Tell us a bit about yourself.
Worked in construction. Now, handicap and retired.


What do you make? 
I make anything out of leather. 

Do you have a shop?
You can find my items at an indoor swap meet at 10 W. Pacific Avenue, Henderson. 

Apart from creating, what do you do?
I like to fish and cook.

Where does your inspiration come from?
From things around me.

What does handmade mean to you?
Something you make, not embellish. Something you don't buy in a box. 

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My customers.

ArtBeat - End of Spring Season 2013

We had the last ArtBeat of the season. We closed with an amazing performance featuring John McEuen with Alpin Hong.  Acclaimed multi-instrumentalist John McEuen and Julliard-trained and award winning pianist Alpin Hong share the stage as two generations apart come together, weaving their way through tradition and culture. 


And, as usual. We are featuring two great crafters that were part of the last event of the season. Their items are amazing and that's why we want to introduce them to you! 

First, we have Twanna. Let's meet her.

Tell us a bit about your self.
My name is Twanna Davis and I'm the owner and creator of Diva Desert Locs, LLC. I'm married with two children, a boy and a girl.

What do you make? 
I make all natural skin and hair care products. I have an online shop via Etsy. 

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I'm a Zumba instructor and a blogger. Check out my blog at rocking your natural hair with style. You can also find me on YouTube

Where does your inspiration comes from?
My inspiration comes from my daughter who has severe eczema. When she was a baby none of the store products worked for her so I learned how to make my own products to care for her skin. 

What does handmade means to you?
Products or items that are made by hand and not by a machine. Also the products should not have harmful chemicals in it.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My husband, he is the one who encouraged me to open my business. 



Next we have Jennifer, one of the creative minds behind Periwinkle Girls. Let's meet Jenn!

Tell us a bit about your self.
I am a stay at home mom/military wife. We move every 1-3 years and I've just recently gotten into crafting for shows and Etsy.

What do you make?
We make reusable items (paper towels, swiffers) as well as toys for kids, baby items (burp cloths, ring toys, etc), booboo monsters, owie owl rice packs, sea shell necklace, key holders. We have an Etsy shop were you can find our items. Check it out: Periwinkle Girls

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Stay at home mom of two girls + pregnant {happy face}.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Cleaning my house! My kids give me lots of inspiration as well as my friends and family.

What does handmade mean to you?
Making something from materials that were not useable before.

Who has been most influential in your crafts?
My kids and family.
